Project warmth was originally created to give quilts to families or individuals whose homes had been lost or severely damaged by fire. It has been expanded to include other needs and requests. Each year members of the Black Hills Quilters Guild make and donate over 300 quilts to various organizations in the Rapid City area. Donations are made to the Rapid City Regional Hospital- newborn nursery, newborn intensive care and the pediatric ward. We also donate to the Black Hills Children’s Home/Emergency Homes, WAVI, Youth and Family Services and Habitat for Humanity. Quilts are donated to Meals on Wheels for raffle purposes and special requests are considered.

Project Warmth receives donations of fabric and other quilting materials which are used for the quilt tops. Donations of quilts or materials to make quilts are always welcome. There are ‘work days’ scheduled for the last Monday of each month, EXCLUDING May, June, November and December, at Faith Lutheran Church, where members get together to work on various projects. The Project Warmth committee then works to get these tops batted and quilted/tied.

Project Warmth quilts are available to area quilters. Project Warmth quilts are an excellent source for quilts to practice on and not have to worry about perfection. Batting and backing are provided. You need not be a member to participate in Project Warm. Contact the P.W. Coordinator.

Everyone is encouraged to join in and help out. If you cannot attend the ‘work days’, there is fabric available to make quilt tops or blocks at home.
